Book Reviews: Automatic Wealth: the 6 steps to financial indepence

Overview : This is a great little book on how to be a more productive employee, invest in stocks, real estate, and small businesses, and how to get your dream job.  At least 50% of this book is copy and pasted from his earlier book “Automatic Wealth” with additions including a great chapter on job hunting (picking the right job, interview and resume tips, etc), a short section on stock picking and taxes, and a chapter on wine tasting (a complete waste of space to me).

Who will benefit most from reading this book:	Someone who hasn’t read any of Masterson’s other books, is a recent college graduate with little or no debt, works in a sales or marketing industry with potential for a lot of upward mobility, likes to work hard and longer hours than colleagues, interested in getting ahead financially.
How the rest of us will benefit	There’s a ton of great financial advice in here for anyone.  If you aren’t currently saving and investing this will give you some ideas for how to do so.  There are also little practical tips on how to be more productive in the office and climb the corporate ladder (or simply getting a good job to begin with).

Chapter 4 – “Your next and Best-ever job” is worth reading.  It gives some great advice on how to actually get a good job by creating an effective resume (instead of one that looks like everyone elses), doing the research necessary to land an interview and then how to succeed in the interviewing process.

He also shares good, practical advice on how to invest in stocks and in real estate.  This goes beyond what he describes in Automatic Wealth (the first book) and gives you concrete steps on how to invest in these areas.

Finally, While his original book was excellent it really bothers me that he is re-selling it under another title.  Instead of being deceptive he could have easily made a 2nd edition to Automatic Wealth with the few additions included in Automatic Wealth for Grads.
