I’m a University professor in Wisconsin, a DIYer, an amateur ornithologist, an ultimate frisbee junkie and an ultramarathon runner. I’m also the sole breadwinner in our family as my wife stays at home with our four adorable children. I started this site when I was a student making less than 20k a year.  I make slightly more than that now, but teachers still aren’t paid nearly enough.

I paid my own way through school (bachelors, Masters, and PhD) and made plenty of mistakes along the way. I’ve also learned quite a bit about saving, making, and investing money and now know that getting ahead financially is definitely possible as a student or any other low-income person (even when the economy is bad). I created this site to share some of my financial successes and failures and my ideas about how to do better with your money no matter your income.
